Over the past several days, both BPD and NPD have taken numerous reports from citizens alleging identity theft involving unemployment benefits.
The citizens report having received a KeyBank debit card, issued in their name, for unemployment benefits requested through the Illinois Department of Employment using their social security number. Many have contacted the IL Department of Employment or KeyBank and requested the cards be locked or deactivated due to suspected fraud. They are then instructed to file a police report.
