A Clay County judge ordered Gov. JB Pritzker to appear in court to explain why he should not be held in indirect civil contempt.
WICS-TV reports Rep. Darren Bailey, R-Xenia, said Wednesday he wants Pritzker to be held in civil contempt because he “continually ignored a valid court ruling that his COVID-19 Executive Orders after April 8, 2020 are null and void.”
Specifically, Bailey said Pritzker violated the court ruling by imposing three new executive orders.
That’s why Bailey filed a petition for Pritzker to be held in contempt and have the last three executive orders rescinded or have the governor held in the Clay County Jail.
While a Clay County judge ruled Pritzker overstepped his authority with his stay at home order, how broadly that ruling applies has been debated.
Pritzker is ordered to appear in court at 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 14.
Failure to do so may result in a warrant for Pritzker’s arrest.
