
(WMAY) — State officials say it could be a game-changer in the fight against coronavirus.
The FDA has granted emergency approval for widespread use of a saliva test developed by the University of Illinois to provide easy and fast results on COVID infections. The university had already planned for use the test in an effort to prevent outbreaks as students return to U of I campuses in Champaign, Chicago, and Springfield.
Governor JB Pritzker says he expects the state of Illinois to be one of the university’s biggest customers for the new test.
