COVID-19 Vaccine Update
The McLean County Health Department has no new information to provide on the COVID-19 vaccine progress. Initial populations prioritized for COVID-19 vaccination will be the following based on Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) & Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), all phases subject to change based on ACIP guidance:
- Phase 1a: Health Care Personnel & Residents from Long Term Care Facilities
- Phase 1b: Essential frontline workers including first responders.
- Phase 1c: Those with high-risk medical conditions and adults over 65 years of age.
COVID-19 vaccine supply will increase substantially in early 2021, allowing greater distribution to the community. Recommendations for groups to focus on will broaden as vaccine becomes available, depending on characteristics of each vaccine, vaccine supply, and disease epidemiology. According to the Illinois Department of Public Health’s most recent weekly report (12/20/20 – 12/26/20), the positivity rate for McLean County was 8.2%. There were 275 new positive COVID-19 cases/100,000 population. The target is 50/100,000. The 475 new cases, 100 new youth cases, 7,141 tests performed, 6 deaths and 20% ICU availability are important metrics for the determination of community spread, which is currently substantial in McLean County. These metrics kept McLean County into the orange category on the statewide map. https://dph.illinois.gov/countymetrics?county=McLean
For Tier 3 mitigations metrics to possibly be relaxed a region must experience less than 12 percent positivity rate for three consecutive days AND greater than 20 percent available intensive care unit (ICU) and hospital bed availability AND declining 7-day average COVID hospitalizations in 7 out of the last 10 days.
Where Region 2 stands:
- Percent positivity for three consecutive days – 11 consecutive days under 12% (7-day rolling average) – We meet this metric, but the positivity rate in our Region continues to rise. It is currently at 9.5%
- ICU and hospital bed availability for 3 consecutive days– 21.4% ICU beds and 26.3% med/surg beds – ICU-2 Consecutive Day over 20% and Med/Surg Beds- 11 Consecutive Days over 20%–We do not meet this metric
- Declining 7-day average COVID hospitalizations in 7 of the last 10 days –10 days of COVID hospitalized patient decreases. –
We meet this metric.
