Bloomington Police made an arrest Monday, January 3, 2022, in a shooting incident that occurred Monday, December 27, 2021.
A 14-year-old male suspect was arrested at his residence in Bloomington this morning, without incident, as part of the investigation. During the arrest, officers also located and seized an illegal, stolen, and defaced firearm. The juvenile was later transported to the McLean County Juvenile Detention Center.
Preliminary arrest offenses for the 14-year-old juvenile are: Aggravated Battery with Firearm, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Possession of Stolen Firearm, and Defacing Identification Marks of a Firearm.
At approximately 7:22 p.m. on the 27th, Bloomington Police officers were dispatched to the 700 block of E. Wood St for a report of a shooting that occurred outside. Upon arrival, BPD officers located a 16-year-old juvenile male who was suffering from a gunshot wound. The Bloomington Fire Department responded to the scene and provided medical attention to the juvenile. The juvenile victim was transported to Carle BroMenn Medical Center. At the time, the juvenile victim was considered in serious but stable condition.
“The men and women of the Bloomington Police Department are committed to solving violent crimes in this city, as well as preventing future shooting incidents. Their diligent effort led to the arrest and recovery of another illegally possessed firearm, the fifth of 2022. It is very unfortunate this tragedy occurred, but I am grateful this incident did not result in the loss of life. Our thoughts are with the victim and his family, and we wish him a speedy recovery,” said Chief Jamal Simington.
The circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation. The victim is still considered in serious but stable condition.
