At approximately 12:28AM Wednesday morning, Normal PD responded to a shots fired call near the intersection of Main and Willow.
Officers responding towards the scene noticed a White SUV leaving the area at a high rate of speed.Officers tracked this vehicle to South University St. When NPD Officers converged on the vehicle a short foot pursuit ensued with two suspects.
One of the two suspects was initially located and placed into custody. Malik Alexander-Romello Wilson, 23. from Chicago is charged with Reckless Discharge of a Firearm; Aggravated Robbery; Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon; and Criminal Trespass to Vehicle.
With assistance from Illinois State University PD, McLean County Sheriff’s Police and Bloomington PD the second suspect was located and transported to NPD for an interview and later released pending further investigation.
NPD Officers located spent shell casings near the alley way at 300 North Main St. and was able speak to a victim who was uninjured from this incident.
After further investigation, the White SUV in which the suspects ran from returned stolen from Chicago IL. Chicago PD was contacted, and it was determined the vehicle was stolen during an aggravated vehicular hijacking on 5/22/22.
Through additional follow-up, a loaded Springfield brand handgun with a loaded magazine was located in the White SUV and seized as evidence.
