Story by Kevin Woodard
Angels4Freedom, a local group that seeks to safeguard children. is looking to provide an alternative to public school for Bloomington-Normal children. They are working with the GRACE Association to open a conservative based school in the area.
Angels4Freedom started during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to their website the groups mission is, “bringing people together to help fight tyranny, through means of education, active and informed involvement, and faith in God; to begin the process of taking back our country; to safeguard our children and family, our health, our jobs, and our freedoms, for today and the future.”
Angels filed suit against Unit Five and District 87 stopping mask mandates. They; support parents homeschooling their children, assist people wanting to run for school boards, promote finding and training poll watchers to promote election integrity and help people file for public records under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). The group opposes Comprehensive Sexual Education (CSE) and Critical Race Theory (CRT).
Gratefully Reclaiming A Conservative Educaton (GRACE) also formed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Leaders at Families of Faith Academy in Channahon noticed that new children coming into their school were as much as two years behind educationally and socially. They contemplated opening a new school and found wide interest across the state. The GRACE Association was formed to meet that need.
GRACE is now enrolling students for the fall at three locations; its existing campus in Channahon, and new campuses in Naperville and Romeoville. Currently they are considering opening schools in at least 16 other locations.
In Naperville the Naperville Christian Academy will open its doors for the first time this fall at Wheatland Salem Church. Bible Baptist Church will host Liberty Christian School, the home of the Patriots, in Romeoville.
Cities 92.9 spoke with Lisa Hiltabrand, a retired teacher, who taught in District 87 for 35 years who is a member of Angels4Freedom regarding their involvement with GRACE schools. Hiltabrand said, “We are just at the tip of that. They came to speak. We are going to get a group together to go visit in Channahon. … I hope we get one planted here. We’ve got to find a space and we have got to find at least 200 kids that are interested in being a part of that.”
If Angels4Freedom can find a space and show parents of 200 children are interested in the program then GRACE will provide furniture, hire teachers and provide the curriculum.
