The Normal Police Department, in an effort to continue full transparency with the community we serve, would like to share our Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) Policy with the public. The policy is similar to several ALPR Policies in other Central Illinois Police Agencies. The policy touches on several areas to include Data Security, Access, Privacy, Storage, Retention, Training, Accountability and Sharing.
Our policy requires strict justification for usage, and the data is never sold or shared with third parties. The cameras will be used to solve and reduce property and violent crime throughout our community and are not intended for minor traffic or parking violations.
You can find our policy on our website located at: https://www.normalil.gov/DocumentCenter/View/20278/Normal-PD-Automated-License-Plate-Reader-Policy
This policy will go into effect pending approval of the ALPR system by the Normal Town Council at the July 18, 2022
council meeting.
