The Youth Council of the Bloomington-Normal Branch of the NAACP will celebrate its one-year anniversary on Saturday, August 13th from 3:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the McLean County Museum of History. The Youth Council Members will reflect on their many accomplishments, including their recent recognition from the NAACP’s National Office, as the Youth Council was selected for the National Youth Council Organizer’s Award during the organization’s recent annual convention.
The Youth Council members will also acknowledge the trailblazing efforts of Dr. Charles Morris and Dr. Jeanne Morris by producing a mini-documentary to capture the Morris’s stories regarding how they contended with racism and discrimination, as two of the first Black Professors at Illinois State University (ISU). The Youth Council interviewed the Morris’s to obtain insight about their experiences at ISU in the 1960s. The public is invited to witness the couple’s recount of their compelling experiences.
