At its meeting on Monday night the Bloomington City Council approved the purchase of two John Deere Tractors for the Parks and Recreation Department. The tractors will replace two existing units that are being traded in.
One tractor is a John Deere 5095M 5 – series tractor with 4-wheel drive and an enclosed cab. It is being purchased along with a Tiger Mowers rear arm flat mowing unit.
Besides mowing Parks and Recreation property the department also mows all highway right of way, detention basins and public property adjacent to creeks.
Bloomington Downtown Streetscape Plan Approved by 5 – 4 Vote
Parks and Rec currently mows 144 individual areas. Many of the areas are steep embankments, hills, ditches and waterways. These can only be properly maintained with special equipment that is designed for this type of work.
The second tractor is a John Deere 4052R 4 – series unit being purchased with a snow blower. In addition to snow removal it will also be used for mowing as well as aerating and seeding.
The tractors are being purchased from Martin Tractor Inc. of Lexington, IL and the mower from Rahn Equipment in Danville, IL .
