NPD Officers arrested a Normal man on Monday who is suspected of being responsilbe for injuring two ISU students with his vehicle as the pair were walking near the intersection of College Avenue and Linden Street close to Pub II last month.
On September 15, 2022, NPD officers located two injured pedestrians who were struck by a vehicle which had been travelling Northbound on Linden.
Officers also made contact with the driver identified as Aidan McCain, age 20.
The victims were provided aid by NPD, NFD and other pedestrians on scene.
NPD immediately began an investigation into the cause of the accident and due to the severe injuries sustained by the two pedestrians, called in their accident reconstruction team.
It was determined the driver of the vehicle was travelling Northbound on Linden Street at an extremely high rate of speed and lost control of the vehicle.
The vehicle exited the roadway at the Northeast corner of the intersection and struck the pedestrians near the Pub II.
After completing the accident investigation, and in collaboration with the McLean County State’s Attorney’s Office, Aidan McCain was arrested on Oct. 3 by Normal PD Detectives.
McCain has been charged with Aggravated Reckless Driving, Class 4 Felony.
The victims in this tragic accident are identified as Carson Bates and Michael Burns, both students at Illinois State University.
Bates and Burns are both still hospitalized and recovering from their injuries.
