The McLean County Justice Committee met on Tuesday and approved portions of the proposed 2023 budget under its jurisdiction. The McLean County Board is scheduled to vote on the entire proposed budget at its meeting on October 10th. Departments whose budgets come through the Justice Committee are; Coroner, Circuit Clerk, Children’s Advocacy Center, Sherriff, Court Services, Public Defender, Metro Communication, Circuit Court and State’s Attorney.
Budget amounts approved for each department are as follows;
- Coroner – $0.7
- Circuit Clerk – $3.5
- Children’s Advocacy Center – $0.9
- Sherriff – $12.2
- Court Services – $5.6
- Public Defender – $2.3
- Metro Communications – $3.6
- Circuit Court – $1.2
- State’s Attorney – $3.5
As can be seen, the largest part of the budget under the Justice Committees’ oversight is the Sherriff’s Department.

- Court Security – $0.6
Note the costliest function of the Sherriff’s Department is managing the jail.
