The Islamic Republic has been dealing with waves of anti-government protests for years. Most recently the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Kurdish Iranian woman has caused an uproar of mass protests.
Amini was detained by the morality police in September allegedly for not wearing her hijab properly. An Illinois State Graduate student is nervously checking Twitter and social media for updates on her friends who have been arrested. The Islamic Republic is claiming Amini dies of a heart attack. Shaboni said Amini was beaten and that she was detained for quite some time.
“They don’t have anything to support themselves against the guards of the Islamic Regime,” said Nahid Shaboni. ” I was surprised how the protestors created a gun with a balloon and a bottle of water…the security guards are fully armed and they are shooting at people. My friends all got arrested and we have no news about them right now. In some cases they force families to not talk with press or post on social media”
Hijab rule only exists in Iran, according to Nahid Shaboni , and she said men can go out in sleeveless shirts but for women it is different they must cover their hair otherwise they will be detained. Shaboni said the security guards can do whatever they want.
“Islam commands women to have a hijab as a means of protection,” said Shaboni. “The Islamic Republic is taking advantage of this saying in Islam and they are forcing people is not wearing the hijab.”
They will detain you claimed Shaboni. Shaboni said the law says one hour but if you find yourself detained you never know how long you will be in custody. Shaboni said you might be raped or beaten and there is a feeling of fear when it comes to police.
“Around the world when you see police you feel safe,” said Shaboni. “It’s different in Iran.”
Nahid Shaboni said the Islamic Republic requires them to have their hijab on for their passport photo but for their visa for different countries they can have uncovered hair. She said in the Unites States there is no restrictions for her to come over and to come study Fashion Design. She said the country allows them to leave but they try to earn money off the people trying to leave because they know they have savings.
“The guards use every way to take money from people,” said Shaboni.
Mainstream media has reported that the 15,000 protesters have not been sentenced to death in Iran, despite viral posts. Shaboni said the mainstream media is lying and that there is something called National Iranian American Council(NIAC), which Shaboni says is a lobby group for the Islamic Republic. The National Iranian American Council is a nonprofit, civil society, NGO based in Washington, D.C. NIAC receives funding from American philanthropic foundations such as the Ploughshares Fund and Rockefeller Brothers Fund.
“They are trying to show other countries and foreigners that Iran’s situation is not that bad,” said Shaboni. “Couple of weeks ago there was a meeting that a NIAC agent was a part of and she manipulated and said that it’s not that horrible. They go to different universities and they broadcast unrealistic information.”
Nahid Shaboni said over 200 representatives voted for the execution of protestor and over 15,000 protestors have been jailed and their families have not heard from them or where they are.
Sophie Turner shared an image of an Iranian woman with the message: Iran sentences 15000 protestors to death as a “hard lesson” for all rebels. She posted the image with text that reads: “There is a mass execution about to happen in Iran over the recent protests. Please share this… this is one of the biggest humanitarian crises anyone has ever seen. Where is the coverage?! Why isn’t this on the cover of your magazines? Or the headlines of your newspapers? The irony is… Iran sits on the UN women’s rights committee….”
Turner took down the post. Sophie Turner is a celebrity.
Communism on Campus
Throughout Stevenson Hall on ISU’s campus there has been “QR Codes” pinned up to corkboards that read, ‘Been called a communist? Make it official and join the party. Scan the link for instructions for joining the Communist Party of Bloomington-Normal.’
Iran is second to Communist China is executions.
White paper protests have broken out worldwide after Chinese people burned alive in a welded shut apartment building. It was welded shut in order to comply with Xi Jinping’s “zero-COVID” lockdowns.
Recently-elected Sharon Chung hired former socialist Normal Town Council candidate Alex Campbell to manage her campaign. Campbell tweeted out that he prefers the name “comrade.” Comrade has a range of definitions like: “a fellow soldier or member of the armed services” or “a fellow socialist or communist (often as a form of address).”
