McLean County Coroner Dr. Kathy Yoder has ID’d the victim in the single vehicle fatality on Interstate 74 at milepost 120 on Christmas Day near Carlock.
According to Coroner Yoder, Herbert Vance Rich III,71, of Wallace, North Carolina, was pronounced deceased on December 25, 2022.
Preliminary autopsy opinion indicates that Mr. Rich III died from multiple blunt injuries due to a motor vehicle crash, reportedly sustained as the driver and sole occupant of the van that left the roadway. There was no evidence of cold exposure contributing to his death.
Toxicology testing is pending.
This incident remains under investigation by the McLean County Coroner’s Office and the Illinois State Police.
