VFW Post 454 Quartermaster Jim Waters is getting ready for Memorial Day. The VFW and American Legion are hosting events that people may want to attend.
“We are going to have a Memorial Day Parade that starts down at Grossinger Motors Arena on Front Street,” Waters said. “That will take place at 9 a.m. At 9 a.m. we will fire one rifle shot to signify the start of the parade. We will then march to Miller Park. At 10 a.m. We will have an overall ceremony at Miller Park that will last probably 35- 40 minutes.”
Waters continued, “Now once that ceremony is over we are going to travel to the Danvers’ cemetery because the gentleman that we are named after (John H. Kraus) is buried there in Danvers.” VFW post 454 is named the John H. Kraus Post.
At 11:55 a.m. the American Legion will have a ceremony, flag folding and render honors for anybody at Evergreen Cemetery that never had funeral honors. This program will also include a flyover, musical salute, guest speaker, a 21-gun salute and taps.
Lexington’s American Legion post will hold their annual event at 10:00 a.m.,. It will feature a guest speaker and will honor not only all veterans but especially veterans from the area that lost their lives during the last year.
