Bloomington Ice Center Manager Michael Hernbrott is set to be inducted into the Illinois State University Hockey Club Hall of Fame this Fall.
“I never set out for this personal recognition, but I’m very humbled by it,” said Hernbrott, adding “I realized when I arrived to be the Bloomington Ice Center Manager the direct connection between ISU Hockey and our Youth Hockey programs.”
Hernbrott reflected on the rich history ISU Hockey has in this community. “It has been the only upper-level Hockey Club to achieve continued success over the years in Bloomington. That success has allowed for more available home ice for our local programs as well as bringing visiting organizations into Bloomington,” said Hernbrott, adding “This created the ability to add programs such as the Central Illinois Girls Hockey Association and the new Central Illinois Special Hockey Association. Equally important is the opportunities for local players to develop into Illinois State Redbird Hockey players and students. Both for the Men’s and Women’s teams.”
The ISU Hockey club was formed on April 17th, 1969, with the Hall of Fame formed on May 14th, 2018, the Class of 2023 members will be the fourth class of inductees.
“The entire Parks & Recreation team is extremely proud of Michael,” said Eric Veal, Director of the City of Bloomington’s Parks & Recreation Department, adding “to receive this honor, is a credit to his dedication and passion for the sport of hockey both on and off the ice.”
The induction ceremony will take place on September 23, 2023, at the Grossinger Motors Arena at 4:00 PM in the arena restaurant which overlooks the ice.
The ceremonies will be followed by the ISU Hall of Fame Game against Maryville University which commences at 7:00 PM.
Grossinger Motors Arena is in downtown Bloomington, Illinois at 101 South Madison St.
