The city of Bloomington announces the launch of the Bloomington Equity Advancement Program (BEAP), a new initiative designed to foster diversity and inclusion by offering women-owned businesses and minority vendors the opportunity to do business with the city.
Bloomington has set specific participation targets for city construction contracts exceeding $50,000. Prime contractors with subcontracting opportunities are expected to demonstrate Good Faith Effort by allocation 10% of the contract value to Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs) and 5% to Women Business Enterprises (WBEs). In terms of workforce, the initiative requires that 12% of total project hours are contributed by minority workers, and 2% by female workers.
This proactive approach will enable the city to maintain a diverse and capable roster of business partners, ultimately enhancing the growth and resilience of these enterprises. The Community Launch Event will take place at the Minority Business Development Center inside Eastland Mall at 1615 E. Empire St. in Bloomington on Thursday, November 9, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
To keep the process running smoothly contractors are asked to bring the following:
o Driver’s License
o Previous M/WBE Certifications (if applicable)
o Business Ownership Documents
BEAP is part of the City’s commitment to creating a more inclusive and equitable community. The program offers businesses owned by women, individuals from racial/ethnic minority backgrounds, and socially disadvantaged groups the opportunity to engage in City contracts. Additionally, it facilitates mentorship collaborations with established prime contractors and provides access to training resources offered by various city agencies.
