The City of Bloomington’s Arts & Entertainment Department announced Monday that the 2023 attendance mark for the BCPA has been surpassed – less than 3 months into 2024. This achievement comes on the heels of several hugely successful shows in the last year and represents a 335% attendance increase from last year at this time.
With sold-out performances from Three Dog Night and Chelcie Lynn on back-to-back nights – another first-time achievement for the venue – a new leaf has officially been turned over for the Downtown venue.
Additionally, both Charlie Berens and Lee Brice have sold out the venue in recent months, and several nearly sold-out performances from the Broadway show Annie, Rodney Carrington, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and Jeremy Camp have also all helped to push the year-to-date attendance at the venue to nearly 15,000.
“We’ve broadened the programming to feature shows and genres that have not been done on a routine basis, or at all at the venue.” said Assistant Arts & Entertainment Director, Mike Wilcott. “We are thrilled to see new faces along with many familiar ones coming through the doors and we are so grateful for the continued support from the community.”
“It’s incredible to witness the BCPA shatter attendance records and consistently host sold out performances,” said City Manager Tim Gleason. “Even with some of the initial doubts, these successes highlight our commitment to growing the cultural landscape in Bloomington. These achievements showcase the talent and dedication of the Arts & Entertainment division.”
The Bloomington Center for The Performing Arts has a full schedule remaining throughout the rest of the Spring season and into summer. More information about upcoming performances at the BCPA can be found at artsblooming.com or by calling the Arts & Entertainment Box Office at (309) 434-2777.
