On April 17, 2024, Illinois State Police personnel partnered with members of the Bloomington Police Department and the McLean County Sheriff’s Office for a one-day traffic enforcement detail in the Bloomington area.
During the enforcement period a total of 115 traffic stops were made on Veterans Parkway and Towanda Barnes Road. Many of these traffic stops were made in reference to excessive speed. The highest captured speed was 78 m.p.h. in a 45 m.p.h. zone on Veterans Parkway. Law enforcement personnel also issued 47 citations and 45 written warnings.
“Chief Jamal Simington of the Bloomington Police Department reminds the motoring public that everyone has a responsibility to contribute to a safer roadway system. As travel increases with warmer weather, be mindful of motorcycles, cyclists, and pedestrians.”
Captain Tim Sweeney said “The Illinois State Police is proud to partner with local agencies to promote traffic safety in the Bloomington/Normal area. We will continue to place our personnel in areas where significant and deadly crashes occur. Our partnership with the Bloomington Police Department, the Normal Police Department, and the McLean County Sheriff’s Office ensure a combined front in traffic safety in the Bloomington/Normal area. The Illinois State Police will continue to work with our local partners to ensure daily commuters in the Bloomington/Normal area are arriving to work and retuning home safely.”
