The Town of Normal Parks & Recreation Department plans to recognize National Arbor Day and celebrate the Town’s Tree City USA designation with two educational programs.
Tyler Bain, Town of Normal Park Maintenance Supervisor, will present Friday, April 26 to 5th grade students from Sugar Creek Elementary school about the importance of trees to the Town and how the Town cares for trees in the community.
Tyler joins Heartland Community College, Illinois State University, Westminster Village and The City of Bloomington Saturday, April 27 to educate participants about different tree species, their significance, historical facts and stories and the environmental benefits the tree provides to our community and world.
Planting with Sugar Creek School students – 9:30 a.m., April 26
After the presentation (around 11:30 a.m.), Ms. Lanham’s 5th graders will help with planting a white oak, the state tree.
Arbor Day Tree Talk – 9 a.m.-3 p.m., April 27
This is a free community celebration highlighting the unique and various trees across Bloomington- Normal. Tours are meant to be at your own pace. Tree Talks take place at 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m.and 2:30 p.m. at various locations. Experts present the Tree Talks at each stop and provide more detailed information on the species of trees at that location.
