Caterpillar settles hiring discrimination case
Caterpillar has agreed to pay $800,000 to resolve allegations of systemic hiring discrimination against dozens of Black applicants at its Decatur production facility.
The settlement comes after a compliance review by the U.S. Department of Labor found discriminatory hiring practices affecting 60 Black applicants for positions between March 2018 and March 2020.
Caterpillar is one of the world’s biggest producers of heavy machinery.
School buses crash
Eleven children were injured after several school buses crashed on Interstate 55 in Grundy County Tuesday.
The incident involved three school buses from the Reed-Custer School District. Traffic was backed up for miles as additional school buses were sent to the scene to help with relocation.
The injuries to the children were described as minor.
Teen drivers services
The Illinois Secretary of State’s office is dedicating DMV services exclusively for teen drivers every Saturday during the summer months at select facilities.
The Teen Summer DMV initiative will cater exclusively to helping teens get their driver’s licenses or permits quickly. The agency is promoting the program through social media and letters to parents whose teens will be eligible for a driver’s license this summer.
