Study finds food subsidies falling short
A new report says people receiving food stamp benefits in Illinois may not be getting enough to adequately feed their family.
A study conducted by the nonpartisan research group Urban Institute found that SNAP benefits are falling short. Their data shows the average maximum SNAP benefit in 2023 was $2.84 per meal, which is $0.53 less than the average cost of a modestly priced meal, $3.37.
GOP chair candidates named
Illinois Republicans have the names of who could be their next chairman for the state party.
After the close of the application window Wednesday, the Illinois GOP announced state Rep. John Cabello, Aaron Del Mar and former U.S. Senate candidate Kathy Salvi applied.
Cabello has gone on record saying he’s seeking an interim position to get through the November election. A closed-door meeting of party officials is scheduled for Friday where applicants will make their case.
Trams returning to State Fair
The most requested ride at the Illinois State Fair is returning this year. The Illinois State Fair is bringing trams back to the State Fairgrounds.
Two complimentary trams will operate on a dedicated route during the 11 days of the fair thanks to sponsorship from the Illinois Corn Growers Association. The trams will run continuously throughout the day.
Maps showing the tram routes will be displayed on the fairgrounds. The 2024 Illinois State Fair runs from Aug. 8 through Aug. 18 in Springfield.
