A fire in a staff workroom on the 2nd floor of Watterson Residence Hall’s South Tower on Wednesday afternoon caused moderate damage but no injuries or student displacement.
The Normal Fire Department responded to the alarm at 4:21 p.m., with additional help from Bloomington Fire Department and off-duty firefighters. The fire was quickly extinguished, and the building was ventilated. The 2nd floor, which houses offices and a fitness center, remains closed for cleanup.
The building reopened to students at 6:36 p.m., and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
