In an impressive start to the 2024 election season, the McLean County Clerk’s office has reported its highest turnout ever on the first day of early voting. County Clerk Kathy Michael shared the news with enthusiasm, noting that the numbers have far exceeded expectations typically seen on the first day.
As of 1:00 PM on the inaugural day of early voting, nearly 100 voters had already cast their ballots at the Government Center, while another 100 were at the Eastland Mall location. Michael clarified that these figures do not include those voting in the City of Bloomington, but preliminary reports suggest that turnout in the city is similarly robust.
“This is a significant moment for our community,” Michael stated. “In my 14 years as County Clerk, we usually see about 20 to 30 voters on the first day of early voting, even during presidential elections. The excitement this year is palpable, and I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!”
For residents interested in participating in early voting, the McLean County Clerk’s Office has set up two convenient locations. Early voting will continue from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM on Friday and will be available again next week, although weekends will not be open until a couple of weeks from now. Additionally, a voting site will be available on the Illinois State University campus in the Bone Founders Suite during the last two weeks of October.
Kathy Michael encourages all eligible voters to take advantage of the early voting period to ensure their voices are heard in the upcoming elections. For more details on early voting hours and locations, residents can visit the McLean County Clerk’s official site.
