In anticipation of Hurricane Helene’s impact, Midwest Food Bank is activating its disaster relief initiatives across the region. The storm is projected to leave many residents in the Southeast without power and access to clean water, resulting in an urgent need for immediate assistance.
To address this crisis, Midwest Food Bank is collaborating with various nonprofits to deliver essential food and resources in the coming days:
- Georgia: In partnership with The Salvation Army, the Georgia division of Midwest Food Bank has mobilized three semi-truck loads of water and beverages to ensure residents have access to clean drinking water. Relief teams are ready to continue supplying safe water as recovery efforts unfold.
- Florida: Working alongside the State of Florida and multiple relief agencies, Midwest Food Bank is teaming up with local organizations to distribute meals ready-to-eat (MREs), water, and beverages to the most affected areas. The Florida team will concentrate on regions experiencing significant displacement and food insecurity.
- Morton, IL: The Disaster Relief Hub at Midwest Food Bank in Morton is prepared to provide food boxes and clean-up kits for families starting the long road to recovery. The team is equipped to deploy additional resources as necessary to ensure timely support for those hardest hit by Hurricane Helene.
“Midwest Food Bank is committed to responding swiftly in times of crisis,” stated Executive Director Christa Staley. “Our mission is to alleviate the burden on affected communities by providing essential supplies, such as food and water, while collaborating with our partners to deliver much-needed relief.”
