Dolton investigation report released
Dolton residents packed into a room at the Dolton Park District Field House on Monday to listen to the final report from Former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, detailing the findings of her investigation into the spending by Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard.
Lightfoot laid out a pattern of unchecked spending. One example was the $48,000 spent on building an ice rink with no board approval. Spending peaked in 2023 when over $775,000 was spent on credit cards, more than $200,000 of that on Amazon and more than $117,000 on travel, including what Henyard called “business trips” to Las Vegas.
Madigan corruption trial resumes
Closing arguments have resumed at the bribery and racketeering trial of former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan and codefendant Michael McClain. McClain attorney Patrick Cotter began addressing the jury Tuesday morning at the Dirksen U.S. Courthouse in Chicago. Cotter suggested that the government’s math didn’t add up when the trial began 15 weeks ago, “and the government’s math still doesn’t add up.” McClain’s attorneys suggested they would finish their statements Tuesday afternoon.
