A somber scene unfolded on I-55 southbound near mile marker 154 in Shirley, Illinois, on the morning of March 20, 2025. According to McLean County Coroner Dr. Kathleen Yoder, a 28-year-old male pedestrian was fatally struck by a pickup truck.
Emergency crews, including the Illinois State Police, Dale Township Fire and Rescue, Bloomington Fire Department, and the McLean County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the incident. The McLean County Coroner’s Office was notified at 10:53 a.m., and the pedestrian was pronounced dead at 11:11 a.m.
The man’s identity has not been released, as officials are still notifying his next of kin. An autopsy is scheduled for March 21, 2025, to gather more details.
