Indiana looks to lure Chicago Bears
Indiana lawmakers have passed legislation in an effort to lure the Chicago Bears to the Hoosier State. The measure created a professional sports development commission, which would develop a plan for attracting a professional sports franchise to northwest Indiana. The Bears bought the site of the former Arlington International Racecourse in 2023 for $197 million. The team also released plans to build a domed stadium on the Chicago lakefront, but the prospect of obtaining public funding for the project have hit a roadblock.
Prosecutors charge Campaign deputy with misusing funds
A Champaign County Sheriff’s deputy is facing a felony charge accusing him of misusing funds from a police support nonprofit he runs. The investigation surrounding 40-year-old Matthew Stuckey began in November, when State Police learned of allegations regarding the misuse of funds made to the 10-78 a charity called Back the Blue Champaign County. As a result, Stuckey is charged with theft of property between $10,000 and $100,000, and is scheduled to appear in court May 22.
MidAmerica St. Louis Airport set for expansion
MidAmerica St. Louis Airport in Metro East is expanding. A general aviation facility, being constructed in two phases, will enable the airport to process international and commercial flights. The project will also allow for an increase in the number of destinations and flights available for travelers in the future. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
