University police said they received reports of gunfire around 7:40 p.m. during a registered student organization event. The shooting occurred in the entryway outside the event. The victim, who is not an Illinois State student, was injured during the incident, officials said. No additional injuries were reported.
The suspect, described as a slender Black male, about 5 feet 10 inches tall with black, afro-style hair and wearing all black clothing, remains at large. He was last seen running south from the Bone Student Center, police said.
The incident remains under active investigation. Anyone with eyewitness information is asked to email ISUPolice@ilstu.edu.
Classes will continue as scheduled on Monday, April 28. However, the Bone Student Center will be closed, and all events scheduled there have been canceled for the day.
