DOJ sues over e-verify
The Department of Justice is suing the state of Illinois over a state workplace privacy law it claims impedes on federal immigration authority.
The lawsuit, filed in the Northern District of Illinois, contends the state’s Right to Privacy in the Workplace Act that went into effect Jan. 1 preempts the federal government’s control of employment eligibility verification. The U.S. attorney general said that any state that incentivizes illegal immigration will face legal consequences from the Trump administration.
School accused of working with China
Documents reveal that Illinois’ top STEM school is seeking to develop programming in coordination with schools based in China.
Emails obtained through a public records request by the group Defending Education show the Illinois Math and Science Academy not only facilitated visits from Chinese educators, but also explored programming collaborations with institutions tied to the Chinese government and military.
During Beijing National Day at the school last year, 17 representatives from China gained access to curriculum and the schools’ AI program.
Pritzker continues campaigning
Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s political team has announced a new video series that seeks to show how Illinois residents are impacted by the Trump administration.
The video series fuels further speculation around Pritzker and his political ambitions, including a possible run for the White House. Pritzker appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel show Thursday night.
