A 77-year-old Bloomington man drowned Thursday afternoon after falling into Lake Bloomington, authorities said.
Emergency crews were called just after 3:30 p.m. to the area of 18351 Kickapoo Lane near Hudson for a report of a man in the water, according to the McLean County Sheriff’s Office.
When deputies arrived, the man that the McLean County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Ernest F. Lamkey, 77, of Bloomington, was still in the lake and appeared to be unconscious.
Rescue teams from the Hudson Fire Department pulled him from the water and immediately began lifesaving efforts. He was taken to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead later that evening at 7:23 p.m.
A preliminary autopsy found that Lamkey died from drowning. Toxicology tests are still pending.
The incident remains under investigation by both the McLean County Coroner’s Office and the McLean County Sheriff’s Office.
