Gym membership fee bill advances
Legislation is moving through the Illinois statehouse aimed at cracking down on gym membership scams.
The measure would prevent gym and fitness centers from cancelling or changing benefits promised in a lifetime membership.
State Sen. Christopher Belt’s bill would require gyms to clearly disclose the details of a membership when the contract is being signed.
Biss announces bid for Congress
The mayor of Evanston has announced a run for Congress.
Daniel Biss on Thursday announced his candidacy for Illinois’ 9th Congressional District, entering the race to replace longtime U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky, who is not seeking reelection. Biss, a former state legislator, said he’s running to fight rising costs and to protect civil rights.
Earlier this month, state Sen. Laura Fine announced she is running for the seat.
Starlink on first passenger flight
Passengers on board a United flight bound for Detroit on Thursday morning flew on the airline’s first Starlink-equipped aircraft, which provided them with satellite internet service while in the air.
Starlink utilizes thousands of satellites suspended in Low Earth Orbit to provide broadband internet service in remote and rural areas around the globe.
Elon Musk’s Space-X began launching satellites in 2019 and currently has more than 7,000 in orbit.
