Transgender sports debate in Naperville
A controversy is brewing in Naperville after a transgender student won multiple events at a middle school female track meet.
Parents engaged in heated debate at Monday evening’s Naperville Community Unit School District 203 Board meeting. The turnout was so large, school officials had to set up an overflow room.
Awake Illinois has now filed a U.S. Department of Education civil rights complaint against the district, alleging a violation of Title IX, which prohibits “sex-based discrimination.”
Alleged shooter was on pretrial release
A man accused of being the gunman responsible for shooting and paralyzing another man on a Chicago area expressway was on pretrial release at the time for two burglary cases.
According to CWB Chicago, Kenyon White, 34, is a six-time convicted felon with six burglary cases pending, including one he was released for at the time of the shooting.
White is the 35th person accused of shooting and trying to kill a person in Chicago last year while on felony pretrial release.
Ice cream recall
A popular ice cream brand has recalled thousands of batches of product, including in Illinois.
Wells Enterprises, the Iowa-based maker of Blue Bunny and Halo Top ice cream, recalled over 17,000 batches of ice cream and frozen yogurt after they were discovered to possibly contain pieces of plastic.
The recall includes 22 flavors of ice cream and frozen yogurt sold in 3-gallon tubs and distributed to over 100 stores across the United States.
