Canadian wildfire smoke to linger
Smoke and hazy skies are expected to linger in Illinois into the weekend from Canadian wildfires.
The province of Manitoba has declared a state of emergency over a series of wildfires. Northern Illinois will be most impacted by the smoke.
Officials said conditions won’t be as bad as in 2023 when much of Illinois and North America dealt with dangerous smoke for weeks.
Cucumbers recalled
Salads and vegetable trays sold at Kroger stores in Illinois and eight other states have been voluntarily recalled in response to a salmonella outbreak connected to cucumbers.
The cucumbers were grown by Florida-based Bedner Growers. There have been more than two dozen illnesses with at least nine people needing hospitalization connected to an earlier cucumber recall.
