Tips offer for higher energy costs
The Illinois Commerce Commission is alerting Illinoisans on ways to keep cool and offset coming energy price spikes.
Summer energy costs are expected to rise June 1 for ComEd and Ameren customers following a regional increase in energy supply prices. The average residential ComEd customer can expect a monthly increase of about $11 per month, and the average Ameren customer will see summer bill increases closer to $45 per month.
The ICC advises contacting your utility about programs to reduce energy usage during peak hours, and install a programmable thermostat to control the temperature overnight.
Bill tracks prison contraband
The Illinois House of Representatives has passed legislation that would collect and reveal data on contraband found in the state’s prison facilities.
The proposal would require the Illinois Department of Corrections to document the contraband and a possible method of entry into the facility. Sponsors said the measure would provide transparency regarding emergency medical responses and drug overdoses.
