Illinois lifts poultry ban
The Illinois Department of Agriculture is lifting the temporary suspension on the exhibition or sale of poultry at swap meets, exhibitions, flea markets and auction markets.
The suspension was initially issued in February in response to the ongoing threat of avian flu. Officials said poultry flock owners, managers and veterinarians should report any unusual findings in domestic poultry, such as an increase in mortality, decrease in water consumption, decrease in egg production, or respiratory signs, including coughing and sneezing.
Man, teen charged in shooting of Uber driver
A Collinsville man and Cahokia Heights teenager have been charged with shooting an Uber driver outside the Columbia, Illinois, police station over the weekend.
Police said the Uber driver went to pick up two passengers in north St. Louis. Shortly after getting into the vehicle, one passenger pulled a gun and ordered the driver to drive to his home in Columbia.
The driver initially complied with the order, but then diverted to the police station parking lot to seek help. Police said the teenager shot the driver in the face. The driver, a 52-year-old man, suffered critical injuries, but is expected to survive.
Gas prices fall
Average gasoline prices in Illinois have fallen over 5 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.37 a gallon.
The national average is $3.14. According to AAA, the cheapest station in Illinois was priced at $2.95 per gallon in Effingham County, while the most expensive is $3.60 per gallon in Cook County.
