Another fatality after Chatham crash
Another child has died as a result of an April car crash at a Chatham after-school program.
The Sangamon County coroner announced that 8-year-old Bradley Lund died Monday after sustaining blunt force injuries in the crash. The incident also claimed the lives of four girls between the ages of 7 and 18.
Charges have not been filed against the driver, who drove through a field before crashing into the building.
Fake utility crew warning
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a scam in the Metro East. They said the scam involves two people going door-to-door telling residents that they are from Ameren and they are checking for downed tree limbs in their backyard.
While the homeowner is outside distracted with one individual, the other burglarizes the home. According to the sheriff’s office, true Ameren employees will be wearing a uniform, have legitimate identification, and will be in an Ameren marked utility vehicle.
Freight train robbery investigation
Commuter service was disrupted Tuesday as police investigated a freight train robbery in Berkeley. Metra trains were halted due to police activity. Police found boxes of kitchen appliances left behind.
A similar incident took place last October in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago when groups of people were seen carrying boxes from trains and loading them into cars and vans.
