Curfew ordinance vetoed
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has followed through with his promise to veto an ordinance which would allow the city’s police superintendent to impose temporary curfews to prevent or dispel violent teen gatherings.
Johnson sent a letter to City Clerk Anna Valencia to announce the veto Friday afternoon.
The city council would need seven additional votes to pass the ordinance over the mayor’s veto.
New statewide 911 administrator appointed
Gov. J.B. Pritzker has appointed Alicia Atkinson to serve as Statewide 911 Administrator.
Atkinson has held numerous positions, including deputy director, at 911 centers during nearly two decades of experience.
Atkinson’s appointment takes effect July 1, pending approval by the Illinois Senate.
Trussell announces Statehouse bid
A former Republican candidate for lieutenant governor is challenging the state lawmaker who proposed new reporting mandates on homeschool families earlier this year.
Stephanie Trussell announced her candidacy for state representative in Illinois’ 42nd House District, which is currently held by Democratic state Rep. Terra Costa Howard.
Trussell was Darren Bailey’s running mate for lieutenant governor in 2022.
