The Bloomington Fire Department has received the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline® EMS GOLD achievement award for its excellence in emergency cardiac and stroke care.
The award recognizes the department’s commitment to delivering fast, evidence-based treatment for individuals suffering from severe heart attacks and strokes. In 2024, Bloomington Fire responded to 461 chest pain calls among a total of 10,775 EMS responses and 13,365 total calls for service.
To earn the Gold-level recognition, the department met four cardiac achievement benchmarks and two stroke reporting measures, demonstrating adherence to national guidelines that begin with a 911 call and continue through hospital care.
“Emergency medical services are often the most critical link in the chain of survival for stroke and cardiac emergencies,” said Dr. Kacey Kronenfeld, chair of the AHA’s Mission: Lifeline EMS Taskforce. “Early intervention and coordination with regional healthcare systems give patients the best chance for recovery.”
Mission: Lifeline is a national AHA initiative designed to improve outcomes for patients with time-sensitive conditions. The program supports seamless coordination between first responders and healthcare facilities.
“We are honored to be recognized again for our dedication to patient care,” said Deputy EMS Chief Jason Greer. “Our team puts research-based guidelines into action every day to give patients the best possible chance of survival.”
