Pritzker selects Mitchell for running mate
Gov. J.B. Pritzker has named a former state legislator and deputy governor to be his running mate for lieutenant governor in 2026.
Christian Mitchell of Chicago served as executive director of the Democratic Party of Illinois in 2018.
Mitchell is currently a first lieutenant in the Illinois Air National Guard and vice president for civic engagement at the University of Chicago.
Police drone guidance issued
Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul has issued guidance to state and local law enforcement about their responsibilities under the Drones as First Responders Act.
Raoul said law enforcement may not use drones to gather information on First Amendment-protected assembly or its participants during festivals of Independence Day parades.

Dozens arrested in Chicago
Police arrested 39 people in connection with the Chicago Pride parade and its aftermath between Sunday evening and early Monday, including five individuals who were illegally carrying firearms.
CWB Chicago reports that this year’s arrest total is lower than the 53 arrests made last year but higher than the totals seen from 2016 through 2023.
