A fast-moving fire heavily damaged a home in the Ironwood Subdivision Wednesday evening, but firefighters rescued two dogs trapped inside.
Crews responded just after 7 p.m. to 1928 Claremont Country Club Commons, where flames had spread from the garage to the second floor. Due to visible smoke and multiple 911 calls, the fire alarm was quickly upgraded to bring in additional help.
Propane cylinders near the garage intensified the blaze but were safely cooled and moved. As the fire reached the attic and roof, firefighters briefly evacuated for safety before regaining control. A portion of the roof collapsed during the incident.
After the fire was under control, firefighters re-entered and rescued two dogs from a closed bedroom, which had shielded them from flames and smoke. One was trapped under debris but both survived and received oxygen treatment.
The home sustained significant fire, smoke, and water damage and is considered structurally unsafe. No human injuries were reported. The fire’s cause remains under investigation.
Fire officials remind residents to sleep with bedroom doors closed and maintain working smoke alarms.
