Four killed, 18 shot outside Chicago lounge
18 people have been shot, four fatally in an incident late Wednesday night on Chicago’s Near North Side.
The shooting happened as a crowd exited Artis Lounge at 311 West Chicago Avenue, following a release party for local rap artist Mello Buckzz.
According to CWB Chicago, an internal police memo said the motive was possibly gang-related.
Six charged with drug conspiracy
A federal investigation into fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine sales in Chicago has resulted in a grand jury returning charges against six people.
The defendants are accused of conspiring to distribute the drugs in Chicago in 2024.
Two of the individuals are charged with illegally possessing semiautomatic handguns as previously convicted felons.
Weekend construction suspended
The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced that lanes closed for construction will be reopened where possible during the Independence Day holiday weekend.
IDOT said non-emergency closures will be suspended from 3 p.m. Thursday, July 3, to 11:59 p.m. Sunday, July 6.
Many closures related to long-term construction projects will remain in place.
