Comptroller says ‘stay tuned,’ won’t seek another term
Instead of another term as the Illinois Comptroller, Susana Mendoza announced she will be exploring what’s next for her career.
Speculation was she would be vying for Chicago mayor in the city’s 2027 municipal elections, but Wednesday morning she said “stay tuned.”
Mendoza said her career so far shows she’s focused on transparency to build trust in government.
The announcement opens up the comptroller’s office race for 2026.
Theme park requiring chaperones
Six Flags Great America in Gurnee is reactivating its chaperone policy.
Starting Thursday, July 17, all guests under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult chaperone who is at least 21 years old.
No injuries were reported after police found evidence of a shooting in the Great America parking lot last week.
Student leadership summit
Four Illinois high school students are participating in the National Student Leadership Summit in Indianapolis this week.
The event is sponsored by the National Federation of State High School Associations.
The Illinois participants are Miriam Johnson of F.W. Parker High School in Chicago, Diya Iyer of Washington High School, Leilani Mora of Belvidere North, and Chloe Tjarks of Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley High School.
