Republican criticizes Pritzker in Texas map debate
Illinois Republicans are calling out Gov. J.B. Pritzker for protecting Texas Democrats who fled to Illinois over the weekend.
Pritzker accused Texas Republicans of trying to cheat by redrawing the state’s congressional maps.
Illinois state Rep. Regan Deering, R-Decatur, said Pritzker signed one of the most gerrymandered maps in America just four years ago.
Venezuelan sentenced for residential burglary
A Venezuelan migrant has been sentenced to four years in prison for committing a residential burglary in Chicago four days after pleading guilty to the robbery of an 80-year-old woman.
CWB Chicago reports that Elio Redondo-Regas, 49, pleaded guilty to stealing a Bridgeport woman’s hat and purse last August but was released. Four days later, Redondo-Regas was arrested and detained for breaking into a home.
Safe Routes to School program to spend $12M
The Illinois Department of Transportation is accepting applications for the Safe Routes to School program.
Administered by IDOT using federal taxpayer funds, Safe Routes to School advances projects to improve safety and reduce traffic in areas around schools.
IDOT said the new grant cycle will distribute a total of $12 million, with a maximum award of $250,000.
