As Labor Day approaches, Mayor Dan Brady is urging residents to embrace the holiday’s spirit of hard work by giving back to their community. In a heartfelt initiative titled the Labor Day Volunteer Challenge, Mayor Brady is encouraging everyone in Bloomington to dedicate time over the holiday weekend to volunteer with local organizations.
“Labor Day celebrates the value of hard work,” said Mayor Brady. “One of the best ways we can honor that tradition is by serving others. I’m challenging everyone in Bloomington to roll up their sleeves and volunteer. Whether it’s an hour or a full day, every effort makes a difference.”
Volunteer Opportunities Across Bloomington:
- Residents eager to participate can choose from a variety of impactful volunteer options:
- Midwest Food Bank: Help pack and distribute food boxes for families facing food insecurity.
- Habitat for Humanity of McLean County: Join a home build or lend a hand at the Habitat ReStore.
- Miller Park Zoo & Parks Division: Assist with beautification projects or volunteer at the zoo.
- Home Sweet Home Ministries: Support meal service or organize donations for families experiencing homelessness.
- West Bloomington Revitalization Project (WBRP): Contribute to the tool library, bike co-op, or neighborhood cleanup efforts.
- Bloomington Parks: Help maintain and beautify any of the city’s 44 parks or participate in community activities.
To amplify the spirit of service, Mayor Brady is inviting volunteers to share photos of their efforts on social media using the hashtag #BloomingtonServes. The goal is to inspire others to get involved and showcase the collective impact of community action.
“This Labor Day, let’s celebrate not just with rest, but with service to our neighbors,” Brady added. “Together, we can make Bloomington even stronger.”
