Uptown Normal is set to come alive with the sights and sounds of the 76th annual Great Lakes Shrine Association’s (GLSA) Fall Business Session, culminating in the much-anticipated Shriners Parade on Saturday, September 13.
Hosted at the Uptown Normal Marriott Hotel & Conference Center from September 11–13, the GLSA gathering brings together Shriners from across the region for a weekend of camaraderie, celebration, and community engagement.
Parade Highlights
The parade kicks off at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the intersection of Fell and North Streets, winding its way around Uptown Circle. A fan favorite, the Shriners Tin Lizzies—miniature, vintage-style cars driven with flair—will once again steal the show, delighting spectators of all ages.
Road Closures and Traffic Impacts
To ensure safety and smooth operations, several road closures will be in effect on Saturday, September 13:
- Starting at 8 a.m.:
- School Street (between College Avenue and North Street)
- North Street (between Fell and School Streets)
- Southbound Constitution Boulevard
- Starting at 9 a.m.:
- North Street (between Fell Street and Uptown Circle)
- Uptown Circle
Fell Avenue will remain open until the parade begins, after which police will close the intersection at North Street to through traffic. All affected roads will be posted as no-parking zones beginning at 6 a.m. Drivers are advised to exercise caution and plan alternate routes. Road closures are expected to be lifted by 11 a.m., weather permitting.
