A 72-year-old woman died Friday afternoon in a house fire in Saybrook.
The McLean County Sheriff’s Department said deputies were dispatched at about 4:12 p.m. to a home at 301 W. Oak Street, where multiple rural fire departments were already battling the blaze.
After the fire was extinguished, deputies confirmed a woman was found dead inside the residence. The McLean County Coroner’s Office pronounced her deceased at the scene.
Authorities are withholding her name until family members are notified. An autopsy is scheduled for Sept. 21.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. The incident remains under investigation by the McLean County Sheriff’s Office, the Coroner’s Office, and the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office.
