To commemorate Child Passenger Safety Week (September 21-27), a free drive-up car seat safety check event will be held on Saturday, September 27, from 9am-1pm in the parking lot of OSF Healthcare St. Joseph, the organizer of the event, located at 2200 W. Washington St., Bloomington, in front of Eastland Pharmacy (Entrance C).
This event will offer Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians (CPSTs) from various organizations, including McLean County Health Department (MCHD), to provide free hands-on seat inspections, installation guidance, and education to help ensure children are properly secured. “There are so many questions people don’t know to ask when it comes to child passenger seats. We invite parents and caregivers to let us inspect the seats they have, and show us how they normally use them,” said Megan Wilson, CPST, Health Promotion program manager at MCHD. “Proper installation saves lives, and we’re here to help.”
Technicians will answer questions like how to choose the right seat for your child’s age, size and development; how to install and secure the seat correctly; and why it’s critical to follow state laws and manufacturer instructions.
