The McLean County Sheriff’s Department responded around 4:12 p.m. on Sept. 19 to a fire at 301 W. Oak Street, where multiple rural fire departments were already on scene. After the blaze was extinguished, deputies discovered Purcell deceased inside the home.
According to McLean County Coroner Dr. Kathy Yoder, preliminary autopsy results indicate Purcell died from probable carbon monoxide intoxication due to inhalation of smoke and soot. Toxicology testing is pending.
