A 24-year-old woman died early Tuesday morning after her vehicle crashed into a home on the city’s west side.
Bloomington police said the crash happened around 4:30 a.m. in the 400 block of West Graham Street. The driver, later identified as Jessica J. Wimp of Bloomington, was the sole occupant of the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the McLean County Coroner’s Office.
Investigators said Wimp’s vehicle was traveling northbound on Lee Street when, for unknown reasons, it left the roadway, struck a tree, and then hit a residence before coming to a stop. No one inside the home was injured, and the extent of property damage has not yet been determined.
An autopsy determined that Wimp died from multiple blunt injuries sustained in the crash. Toxicology results are pending.
Bloomington Police Chief Jamal Simington expressed condolences to Wimp’s family and friends, adding that safe driving practices are critical to preventing tragedies. “Traffic collisions negatively impact families for generations,” Simington said. “Before putting a vehicle in motion, pledge to drive defensively and safely on every trip.”
The Bloomington Police Department, McLean County Accident Reconstruction Team, and the McLean County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to call Bloomington police at 309-820-8888.
